CALLING ALL ENGAGED COUPLES

usvi690x95

With historic churches and synagogues, centuries-old sugar mills and forts, romantic resorts and glorious palm-fringed beaches, the U.S. Virgin Islands provides the perfect backdrop for a romantic island wedding. Brides-to-be can plan a unique USVI wedding, complete with ceremony and reception full of the local Caribbean flair. Working with a resident wedding planner is an ideal way to incorporate many USVI traditions into a romantic destination wedding getaway on St. Croix, St. John or St. Thomas.

While the beach is a beautiful setting for a romantic Virgin Islands wedding, those looking for the unconventional can “take the plunge” in a service orchestrated entirely underwater. Couples can also explore the many cultural locations for a ceremony. From Fort Christianvaern on St. Croix to the Annaberg Sugar Mill ruins in the Virgin Islands National Park on St. John, to a wedding at sea off the coast of St. Thomas, cultural and historical locations provide an unforgettable backdrop for a wedding.

Traditional madras fabric is the perfect accent for a Virgin Islands wedding. Incorporate the fabric into the bouquet or the groom’s tie. Add indigenous flowers, such as the hibiscus, into the decorating scheme. Ensure that your guests take home a special souvenir  with handmade party favors from local craftsmen. Serving local fare is a must for any wedding in the U.S. Virgin Islands. A traditional black cake, a rum cake blackened by molasses and a variety of liqueurs, is a unique custom at any Caribbean wedding.

To try out all this first hand, book the USVI’s “Test Drive Your Wedding” package. Brides-to-Be will spend 3 nights in the USVI visiting local venues, inspecting hotel properties, participating in bridal training seminars led by celebrity wedding planners and meeting with local vendors.  The package includes your hotel stay, round trip airport transfers, bridal symposium registration, along with dining and shopping certificates. Best of all, have the price of your package reimbursed if you book your destination wedding in the USVI after your “test drive!”  The Test Drive Your Wedding” package is available July 9-12, 2013. This special package for brides-to-be is bookable only on www.VisitUSVI.com  and must be booked by June 30, 2013.

Best Hotel to Celebrate Your Caribbean Honeymoon

Reminder!!  The selection of a hotel is an important part of your honeymoon plans.  If you are planning a Caribbean Honeymoon you may want to make sure of the following:

If the brochure says beach front – do make sure you have direct ocean view.  Wrapping yourself around a terrace in    hopes of seeing the beach is not ocean view.

Think king size bed

Air conditioning a must!

Are you choosing an All-Inclusive?  Do you want breakfast in bed?

Not all hotels and All-Inclusive offer room service – which I think is an important part of the overall experience of being in love, celebrating love, enjoying a relaxing morning together and just spending a lazy morning together.  If you prefer to walk to your breakfast, then by all means book accordingly.

Make sure the hotel is aware that you are on a honeymoon.

Most of all work with a qualified Travel Agent who will make sure all details are taken care of.  Want to know why working with a Travel Agent is important?- if there are flight problems – all you have to do is call the agent.  They take care of getting you home or booking you on the best available flight.     Have you ever been stuck at the airport with a flight cancellation or mishap and cannot get through the throng to speak to anyone at the counter?  With an agent, you have no  such worry.

Need hotel recommendation? do send an email – Jacqueline@MarryCaribbean.com

Enjoy your Caribbean Honeymoon or Caribbean Destination Wedding.

Looking for a wonderful hotel for your celebration?

Looking for a wonderful hotel to celebrate Valentine’s Day, a honeymoon, a romantic jaunt or to get married?  Look no further than the Iberostar Grand Hotel in Riviera Maya.

I recently spent a week at this property and was amazed at the beauty of the place, the hospitality, the service, the food and the overall cleanliness.  I am not one to get bowled over by an all-inclusive resort, but this hotel is far and beyond anything you can imagine.

First you can hop on JetBlue for a quick trip to Cancun.  At the airport you will have prompt transportation service ( I used Olympic Tours) efficient, clean and fully air-conditioned.  The ride to the Riviera Maya is about 30 minutes and a very scenic one at that.   In a very short while you arrive at this fabulous structure and in minutes your luggage is wheeled off and you are ushered to the reception desk.   There you are met with the traditional cocktail (alcohol or non alcoholic) while you are being attended to.  Very efficient – from front desk to Bellman you – you are taken care of with the utmost speed and courtesy.

Once you receive your assigned room, the bellman escorts you and your luggage to a beautifully appointed suite.  I stood in the middle of the room admiring the beautifully designed and romantic space, the quality of the sheets, towels and layout of the room.  Just beautiful –  then opened the sliding door to a large terrace.  You have the choice of garden view or beach — either selection is gorgeous.  You will not be disappointed.

I was now curious about the dining areas, as it is one thing to be in a gorgeous hotel, with a fabulous room, but the restaurant and food experience would determine if it warrants this rave review.  I headed out to the beach area where the restaurant is located, for lunch.  I was most anxious to see if the elegance of the hotel and room translates to the restaurant.

On arrival at the restaurant, I walked in expecting the regular buffet and ‘cafeteria dining’.  No, No, No..Elegance is the order of the day.  The tables have actual tablecloths, clean, crisp and airy building.  You can have your choice of wines at lunch..the buffet selection and presentation is extraordinary.

I was ushered to a table overlooking the vast expanse of beach and the crystal clear blue water and had the most delicious meal.   The next morning I headed to another restaurant for breakfast – this one overlooking the pool and again presentation and quality of food was above and beyond.  Not your typical all-inclusive.

Of course, I had to test out room service.  Again, delivery was prompt and it was elegantly appointed and set up.  Again, I was thoroughly pleased with the quality and taste of the food.

I visited the very large pool – lots of comfortable outdoor furniture with attentive staff.

At no point at this property do you feel hurried, or had to wait for anything.  Service is top notch, and done with a smile.  You feel as if the staff really enjoy their job and happy to help you with whatever you want.  Of course it also does not hurt that there is a shopping center 5 minutes away and the bellman is only too happy to take you there on a golf cart.

The shopping center is filled with all the basics – artwork, local products and great silver products: all at a competitive price.

I highly recommend this property and I will definitely be back there for some much needed rest and relaxation.

IS THE ATLANTIS HOTEL ON YOUR TRAVEL WISH LIST?

Having just returned from the Atlantis Hotel & Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, I know you would want to hear all about my stay.  I love the Bahamas and the people are super friendly and helpful.  The Atlantis Hotel does not disappoint in this arena.

This resort offers all the amenities:

* The Largest Casino in the Caribbean

*Wonderful water park/adventures

*Marine habitat – ‘and this is fascinating’

*Three hotels in one building to choose from: Beach Tower, Royal Tower & Coral Towers

* Fine dining, Casual Dining, Cafes, Bars & Lounges

You name it, this hotel offers it.  Great place to visit and one that all children will love.  Something for everyone and all at a price.

I stayed in the Beach Tower as I was attending meetings and needed to be relatively close to the convention center and meeting rooms.  The room was fine, very clean and the view was breathtaking.  Television was flat screen and hopefully you will have better luck than I,  in getting the television to work properly.

PRICING:  I know the Atlantis does advertise some very super saver rate, but do read the fine print and know what you are buying into.  That lovely bottle of water in the tray near the television is $7.00.  Some of my daily rates that was not included in the cost of the room is as follows:

*Bellman Gratuity

*Daily Hotel Guest Tax ($17.00)

*Daily PITDA*/NPIPB Levy  ($17.00)

*Daily Gratuity ($5.00)

*Daily Utility Service Fee ($15.95)

If you want to connect to the internet it is $19.95 for 24 hours: Meals- do be careful as six small chicken wings will set you back almost $14.00 and the same for a plain Caesar Salad.  If price is no object and you are looking for full entertainment and all the bells and whistles, then this is definitely you.

Do hope you enjoy your stay.  It is a fun place to visit, lots to see and do, but hope you will not be disappointed on day of departure when you see your bill.

TSA Reminder Before you arrive at the airport

For the safety and security of the traveling public, TSA, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and/or airlines have prohibited certain items from being brought onto airplanes in carry-on and/or checked bags. To help you plan ahead and avoid the potential of additional screening, be sure to check out the prohibited items list below and pack accordingly.

As an added information source for passengers, you can also use the “Can I Bring…?” tool from the My TSA iPhone and mobile app to get information on an item you want to bring on a plane. Simply type the name of the item in the box and you’ll get information on whether or not it’s prohibited and other information to help you speed through security. You can also access the tool from your mobile device if it has a web browser.

Updated!
Click here to download the Prohibited Items brochure. (256kb, pdf)

It’s important to know that even if an item is generally permitted, it may be subject to additional screening or not allowed through the checkpoint if it triggers an alarm during the screening process, appears to have been tampered with, or poses other security concerns. The final decision rests with TSA on whether to allow any items on the plane.

NEW MARRIAGE LAWS FOR THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS

CHANGES TO BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS’ MARRIAGE LAW MAKES DESTINATION
WEDDINGS EASIER FOR VISITORS

Tortola, British Virgin Islands, September 13, 2012 –

Saying, “I do” just became easier for couples heading to the British Virgin Islands (BVI) for their nuptials: Brides and grooms can now get married 24 hours after arriving to the Territory! On September 3, the BVI Government made significant changes by amending the Marriage Act (Cap 272): Residency requirements for ‘Special Licence’ were shortened from three (3) days to one (1) day, a new fee schedule was introduced, and the steps to obtain a licence were all transferred to the Civil Registry for a ‘One Stop Shop’ process.

Couples even have the choice of beginning their wedding application online before arriving in the BVI, by submitting their information through the Government’s new Civil Registry Information System (CRIS) at www.crisvi.gov.vg.
Prior to the improvements made to the Act, couples were tasked with stopping at three different locations to obtain the necessary documentation for the marriage licence application. Through these new changes, couples can complete the
entire process at the Civil Registry where they will provide proof of their identity (passport) and marital status (original certified copies of Decree(s) Absolute for divorced spouses or original Death Certificate(s) of deceased spouse(s); apply for their licence, obtain a marriage certificate and present two witnesses.

CHANGES TO BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS’ MARRIAGE LAW MAKES DESTINATION
WEDDINGS EASIER FOR VISITORS

The Special Licence fee is $220 and the Ordinary Licence is $120. Additional fees are applicable based on the bride and groom’s wedding specifications: $220 for the Registrar-General or marriage officer to perform the ceremony, $120 for the ceremony to be held in the Civil Registry building and $25 for a certified copy of the marriage licence.

In the BVI, couples To apply in person for a marriage licence or any service surrounding the subject of marriage, please visit the Civil Registry and Passport Office, which is located upstairs of  Burhym Electrical Services in Wickham’s Cay, Road Town, Tortola. The office is opened Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or telephone have many options for getting married and locations abound for conducting wedding ceremonies that are representative of the couple’s personality and style. The stunning group of islands and cays offer idyllic backdrops such as beaches, churches, yachts, hotels, villas, resorts, private islands, historic ruins, national parks, the Civil Registry, and many more to suit their tastes. There are also many experienced wedding, and event planners available to supply their requests.
