MY DAUGHTER IS MY BOSS AND I AM THRILLED

By Myrtle Dwyer

Many persons might wonder why I am ecstatic that my daughter is my boss after more than three decades under my belt in senior executive positions. After all, I am the one who has been trained in hospitality and Tourism so I should be jockeying for position. Here are just a few reasons why I am a happy trooper.
RACHEL WAS BORN WITH TOURISM IN HER BLOOD
She was born in a hotel and spent most of her formative years living in a hotel. She had time to live the life and hit the road at times when I went on promotional trips. Rachel was absolutely charming and gained many friends and clients alike. At a tender age, from her simple eyes she gave me critique which had me thinking. When our company Glamour Luxury Destination Concierge (Glamour Tours) was formed, she was just a child but made the trips with her dad – Roy Anderson.
SUCCESSION PLANING IS CRUCIAL TO ANY BUSINESS
It is quite critical for any business to formulate a plan for succession or it will be heading nowhere fast. As a family owned business, it is more important to be able to demonstrate to our partners, clients, financial institutions that there is a planned measure of continuity. These reasons have contributed greatly to our decision.
IN TOUCH WITH THE DIGITAL AGE
With the greatest will in the world, with much practice and all that it takes to have a hang on modern technology, neither her father I will grasp it as quickly. She has the knack to grasp matters quickly and figure out the rest. From that position, Rachel can guide every move we make from engaging in software to managing transportation, new telephone system to connect all stations to new IT outlay. By the way, she made sure that she learnt to drive buses too.
RACHEL IS YOUNG AND SMART

This young lady has youth in her favour and is pretty brilliant, if I might add. Above all, she is willing to adapt and learn. She never seems to want to rest on her laurels and is always reading widely or studying more in her field of finance and economics. That’s not my thing! So sorry! My emphasis is on sales and marketing along with customer relationship management so this creates balance in our approach to running our business. We are both are practical http://www.texasgoldengirl.com/prednisone/ people, willing to get our hands dirty. She can be seen at the airport receiving her guests or going over hills and vales on site visits with her clients.
SHE IS A RISK TAKER
Rachel is of the mindset that growing a business requires certain risks. Mother dear is a bit more conservative and might just miss out on opportune moments. I am learning from her. She is willing to learn from her mistakes and get back to basics, calculating every risk for its pros and cons. For her failure means when you fail to keep trying – seemingly positive in her outlook. This young lady is not bothered about the things that faze me. Public opinion is important to her but will not determine her every move. At fourteen years old, she was the one leading a bunch of school mates through London to Latvia and Estonia even with her teacher present. At sixteen, she headed to Mexico one summer for immersion in Spanish to my horror most times, as she would call from some phone booth close to one of their silver mines. She made good use of local transportation which I would not have dared to do.
A GOOD LISTENER
Rachel benefits from having both parents around and is willing to listen. Her mother is active in the business and she is open to my candidness. My love for training young people continues with her and she has made herself a sponge. She reaches out to others in the industry locally and globally and draws from them. She keeps her core profession close to her heart and communicates with her counterparts in banking. Rachel listens to everyone keenly without looking at the intellectual capability or status in life.

Does she have much to learn? Of course, she does and no one should stop learning. Will she make mistakes? Yes, she will as to err is human. The important point is to move on with the lesson. Do I have any regrets about her being my boss? Absolutely, not. If she remains dedicated and focused, she will meet great success in common hours. After all, she is my boss and I will stick around for as long as I can. Nothing changes as I am still her mother.
